The 7 Best Places to Get a Hot Dog in NYC

Published on July 19, 2018 by teammvr

If you want a hot dog, you go to New York City.

It’s as simple as that… New York has some of the best dogs around.
But where can you find these fancy pups? Some are hidden gems, while others can simply be found at a street corner! Below we’ve listed our picks for 7 best hot dogs in NYC.

1.Chelsea Papaya
171 W 23 rd St.
We love that this place has so much culture and authenticity to it. We also love that they have
some cheap dogs. The average hot dog is about $2.95 and is loaded with meat, beans, and chili.
Definitely our guilty pleasure!

2.Katz’s Delicatessen
205 E Houston St.
Katz’s may be famous for their pastrami sandwich but we believe their frankfurter hot dog is where they truly shine. You can skip a long line and get this bad boy for only $3.95. We load up on sauerkraut,
mustard, and relish but everyone has their own special way of dressing their dogs.

3.The Rusty Knot
425 West St.
Did someone say pretzel dog? Not only is this hot dog magnificent in every way, but it is an
architectural phenomenon in the weenie world. The pretzel is actually baked around the
hot dog engulfing it in a delicious perfectly browned blanket. These cost about $4.

4.Crif Dogs
113 Marks Pl.
Crif Dogs is famous for deep-frying its’ franks. The Chihuahua dog is wrapped in bacon and served on
a roll spread with avocado and sour cream. There’s a plethora of bacon-wrapped hotdogs on
this menu, and we recommend trying them all.

5. Gray’s Papaya
2090 Broadway (Between 71st & 72nd St)
Wow, what’s not to love about Gray’s Papaya? Firstly, they are open 24 hours a day- can’t beat those hours. ALSO we also love how juicy and thin these dogs are. The saltiness doesn’t overpower any other part and these beauties aren’t hard to love. Best news yet, they have a great special called the Recession Special
which gets you two franks and one drink for $5.95

6. Schaller’s Stube
1652 Second Ave
This hot dog shop has some deep history in it which we love. Century-Old Yorktown butcher
Schaller & Weber started this wurst company. At Schaller’s Stube you can get any kind of wurst
(Brat, Knack, Bauern, Kielbasa, etc.). What’s even better than the selection are the delicious and
warm brioche buns that the dog comes nestled in. YUM!

7. Mile End
97A Hoyt Street
Last but not least we have the big daddy of hot dogs! This all-beef frank is long and juicy and nestled
perfectly inside a potato roll. The roll is grilled a bit, so it is perfectly crisp inside your mouth
when you bite into this dinner perfection. But how did we decide that this is the grandfather of all hot dogs? It earned its title with the slathering of their homemade sour relish that absolutely can’t be missed!
